This delightful dish features frozen gnocchi fried to golden perfection in a nutty brown butter sage sauce, enhanced with garlic and a splash of lemon juice for brightness.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 lb frozen fresh gnocchi
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 10 pieces fresh sage leaves
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat 3 tbsp (45 ml) of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Take the frozen gnocchi directly from the freezer and add them straight to the hot oil.
  3. Fry the gnocchi until golden brown and crispy, about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally.
  4. Remove the gnocchi and set aside on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  5. In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add 1/2 cup (113 g) of unsalted butter.
  6. Allow the butter to melt and foam, stirring frequently until it turns golden brown and smells nutty.
  7. Add 3 cloves of minced garlic to the brown butter and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  8. Add 10 fresh sage leaves to the butter and let them crisp for about 1 minute.
  9. Add 1 tbsp (15 ml) of lemon juice to the brown butter sage sauce for acidity; stir well.
  10. Season the brown butter sage sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  11. Return the fried gnocchi to the skillet and toss in the brown butter sauce until well coated.
  12. Serve hot, garnished with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and additional sage leaves.
