Powdered Sugar Icing for Cookies

8.0 (1)

A quick, sweet icing made with powdered sugar, milk, and extracts, perfect for decorating cookies.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt.
  2. Use a rubber spatula to stir the mixture until smooth.
  3. If the icing is too dry, add 1 teaspoon of milk; if it is too thin, add 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar until the desired consistency is reached.
  4. Once the correct consistency is achieved, add food coloring as desired.
  5. Spoon the icing into a piping bag (or a plastic bag with the corner snipped off) and pipe an outline around the edge of each cookie, then fill in the center.
  6. Immediately after piping, use a toothpick to spread the icing, fill any holes, and top with sprinkles if desired.
  7. Allow the icing to dry on a cooling rack for 2–3 hours until it starts to firm up; note that it will not completely harden.
