Chocolate chip cookies!
Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies
A classic, reliable recipe for chewy, golden-brown chocolate chip cookies that can be elevated with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1.25 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.5 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 0.5 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
- 6 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 unit large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2.5 cups semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 pinch flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
- Beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar in a large bowl using an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth, about 2 minutes.
- Reduce the mixer speed to low and add the egg and vanilla, mixing until combined.
- Add the flour mixture slowly and mix just until incorporated.
- Stir in the chocolate chips by hand, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Drop the dough by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Sprinkle the tops of the cookies with flaky sea salt if desired.
- Bake 1 sheet at a time for 10–13 minutes, until the bottoms and edges are lightly browned and the tops feel firm to the touch.
- Transfer the baking sheet to a wire rack and let the cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to the rack to cool completely.
Notes
Cookie dough freezes well; form into balls and freeze in a sealed bag. You can bake them directly from frozen by adding 1–2 minutes to the total baking time.
