Homemade Mustard BBQ Sauce

20m
8 servings

A tangy, slightly sweet Carolina-style mustard BBQ sauce — great on beefor as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cups yellow mustard
  • 2 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Add the yellow mustard, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup to a small saucepan.
  2. Whisk the mixture until completely smooth.
  3. Stir in the garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Heat over medium-low, stirring occasionally, until the sauce just starts to bubble.
  5. Reduce the heat and simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning with more vinegar for tang, honey for sweetness, or cayenne for heat.

Notes

Keeps in the fridge for 2 weeks in a sealed jar and improves after a day as flavors meld. The Dijon mustard adds essential depth.
