Enjoy a deliciously juicy burger with a crispy crust, known for its unique cooking technique. This recipe will guide you through making classic Oklahoma smash burgers at home.

  • 1 1b ground beef
  • 1 large onion
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • cheese slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat a griddle or a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into equal portions, about 3 ounces each.
  3. Shape each portion into a ball.
  4. Salt the onions and let them sit for 15 minutes, then squeeze out the liquid.
  5. Place the balls of beef on the hot griddle, spacing them out evenly.
  6. Add a pile of the squeezed onions on top of each ball.
  7. Using a sturdy spatula or a burger press, smash each ball down to very thin.
  8. Season each patty generously with salt and pepper immediately after smashing.
  9. Cook the patties for about 2-3 minutes until the edges start to brown.
  10. Flip the patties and add a slice of cheese on top immediately after flipping.
  11. Place the buns on top of the burger to steam.
  12. Assemble the burgers by placing the patty on the bottom bun and covering it with the top bun.
  13. Serve immediately and enjoy your home-cooked Oaklahoma smash burgers! Add tomato, pickles, condiments as you wish.
